My mission is to create pieces (blog posts, images, memes) to help you make positive choices, provide insight, and give you something to think about. The majority of my blog deals with beer, wine, and apps. However, occasionally, I will comment on other topics I think are interesting called “Opinion” pieces.
Is this blog for you?
If you love beer, wine, or apps, then the answer is yes. This is a community for people who are obsessed with the apps on their phone and curious about what is in their beer and wine. This blog is for millennial and Gen-Xers in the District, Maryland, and Virginia (DMV) area or anyone interested in the DMV’s beer, wine, and technology community.
Where did The District Nerd come from?
That’s kind of a long story, but here is the short version. I don’t remember why I created my first blog. It was an attempt at a travel blog, but I had no idea what I was doing or what I wanted to accomplish. It died a slow death. A few years later, after I completed a children’s writing program, I decided to try again. This time I had an end goal to create a name for myself in the science fiction and fantasy community. I launched Hellar Reviews, a blog about women who write science fiction and fantasy and women in STEM. A year into it, I lost my job and broke-up with my boyfriend and for a little while it felt as if my world had collapsed around me. In the end, they were the best things to happen to me. I was broken open and for the first time I was set free from myself and what I believed my life should be. I found new hopes, dreams, and interests. And most surprisingly, I realized I missed the business of blogging.
When I decided to return to blogging, I needed it to be reflective of this new phase of my life. A one-note blog wasn’t going to work, but I needed it to be cohesive (if only to me). Then, one day while watching a friend post a food picture to Instagram, it clicked for me just how much we(millennials) use not only our phones, but apps for all parts of food and beverage from finding recipes to sharing pictures.
What will you find?
The District Nerd is a collection of articles on wine, beer, and apps. I am going to delve into the basics of wine and beer making. In addition, I am going to investigate apps and the women that make them happen. There will be opinion pieces on a wide range of topics including movies, news, books, and cultural observations. In honor of my love of puzzles, I am working on a mini puzzle book as a free gift for joining the team.
